Serus found herself back at her home in what seemed like weeks. She didn't like coming back here too often because it held too many painful memories, but she had nothing else better to do. She slid the wooden gates open with a 'klack' and shut them promptly after she slipped in. She looked over the entrance and it was just as she had remembered. The gardens were just as bright with colorful flowers and all sorts of trees. Behind it all there was the large Japanese styled home with the white walls and tile roofing. The tiles were pitch black with silver trim and carved a carved pheonix on each corner of the roof.
She walked towards the house and passed under a bright red archway with ancient writing on it. She held her breath as she kept moving forward. At the foot of the bouse was a large ponds that wove its way around like a moat. It contained large Koi fish and snapping turtles. There was a small red bridge that lead up to the porch that also surrounded the house. As soon as she stepped onto the bridge the main doors opened and a maid greeted her by kneeling onto the ground and pressing her face to the floor. Serus bowed lightly and as if the girl knew, stood up and kept her head down. "Welcome Norallis-shukun." The girl said lightly.
Serus stepped past her into the house and was immediately greeted by other house staff. She bowed and scuttled out of the room. They knew that she did not want to be bothered. She gracefully made her way to the prayer shrine for her 'mother' and knelt down in front of it. She carefully lit the sticks of incense and she breathed it in deeply before placing her hands together in a prayer motion. She closed her eyes and bowed a few times before opening them once more. She felt somewhat sorry at how often she really came back to pray for her 'mother'.
She arranged the dried flowers in front of the shrine so that they looked better and regretted not grabbing anything from the garden. She bowed to the floor and then stood up and went back outside. There was a refreshing breeze and it whipped her hair to the side. She sighed and then her expression hardened. Serus went back down the bridge and went around to the back of the house to where there was a bamboo forest. She wanted to get lost in it, but she knew that would be impossible. She had wandered this forest way too many times to not know her way around. It had grown much more since she had last been there and it would be a tight squeeze, but she managed.
The earthy smell reached her lungs and she breathed it in as if it was more important than air itself. She pushed her way through the bamboo until she found herself in the middle. It was marked by a small stone shrine and she found a nearby rock and crouched on it while ripping out a bamboo shoot and playing with it. This place was always a comfort for her. Maybe if she found someone worthy of her feelings, then she would lead him here. It was hard to think of it that way, but she was now more than old enough to have her hand asked in marriage.
This brought a chill up her spine and she twisted the bamboo with her fingers and watched a bug progress up and down the shrine. She was glad this place was off limits to anyone else except herself. Serus stood slowly, placed the bamboo shoot on top of the shrine and bowed to it before making her way out once more. She was back to the world of tamed plants and civilization. It was still beautiful, but often complicated.

A young girl passed by the large building, her brown eyes turning towards the place. Her hair was of an onyx colour, coming down just past her shoulders. Her hands were hidden in the sleeves of her white yukata robes tied together by a golden sash, yet one thing seemed off. Her feet were bare, all the rest of her seemed rather elegant as though she belonged in the East Rukongai. The actuality of the matter was that she was just a poor girl who had come to this sector merely on a whim. The folk around these parts were rich, and tossed out scraps that would befit even those of average social class.
She had spent several hours getting the details down, even resorting to swiping a yukata from one of the fancy shops in this district. It was as though she was a different person, even though it was just a shroud of lies. She scratched her forehead, looking around the area. It was extremely uncomfortable with all these perfectly sculpted structures around her. It was as though someone had painted a beautiful utopia and she was in the painting.
The girl halted as her nostrils caught a whiff of something fragrant. Her eyes widened as her gaze turned towards the wooden gates. Tendrils emerged from the confines of her sleeve, as they grasped onto the top of the gates, pulling the girl upward onto the barricade. Her frame jumped down into the yard, landing on her knees. As she pulled herself to her feet, she quickly dusted her yukata off, the vines receding back into her garb. Her eyes quickly began to dart around her new surroundings, reveling in what she had discovered. The plants all around her were of the utmost beauty, the trees were pruned to perfection and not a single withered flower laid in the gardens.
Her back arched down as she plucked one of the flowers, as she embraced the aroma of the small lifeform, before straightening herself to further observe the area. Her feet pressed against the cool soil beneath them as she fluttered by the building, wary of any who may reside there.
The bamboo shoots seemed to have sprung up out of nowhere, as her feet pattered against the dirt, running into the forest without any concern, curiosity now overtaking all other emotion. Her cautiousness did not return until another figure made her way out as she found herself face to face with what was most likely the owner of this land. The girl was speechless as she stood there, her mind failing her as far as what to do next, except to stand there with her mouth agape. "Ummmm...."

Serus stood there with a girl in front of her. This girl was beautiful in the sense of being wild. The outfit that she wore definitely did not match her personality as Serus had seen her prancing towards the bamboo forest. She could clearly see that her feet were bare and that she probably did not belong here. Here as in, in her land. Serus was feeling rather peaceful at this moment though and merely bowed lightly to the girl. She still had that cold unforgiving aura about her though as she did this. She just looked as if she was going through the motions of being proper before she slashed out at the girl.
She returned to her upright position and, with eyes half closed, parted her lips to speak. "I see you're enjoying yourself." She said in a smooth voice. Her expression was still emotionless bust calm, as if Serus had been expecting the girl the whole time. She still had her sword by her side so that just made her look even more intimidating. Serus was pleased that the girl seemed to notice that perhaps she shouldn't have crosse into this place. Her purplish hair fluttered behind her as the wind seemed to want to pull her back into serenity.
"You don't seem to fit in this place." Serus finfally announced bluntly. This girl could be the neighbors for all she cared, but she obviously did not belong here. Serus sighed and thought about what to do next. She could just call for the workers and tell them to kick this girl out. Or maybe she could just kill the girl here and leave her rotting corpse to the bamboo to eat up in their spare time. That could be a possibility, but since whenever she tried to get permission to kill off a subordinate, she was never granted the OK to do so. It wasn't "humane and proper conduct". If she killed this girl, then she could easily just be displaced even if she was a noble. Yes, but she could just as easily destroy the Shinigami empire as well if she put her mind to it. No, she would just merely stand there and stare at the girl. The girl, after all, wasn't hurting anything.

The girl nervously twiddled her fingers as her eyes drifted away from the woman who had just came out of the bamboo forest. She would prefer not to make eye contact as her skin began to perspire. Yet all the same, her eyes eventually locked with the Shiningami's. As the girl stared at the Shinigami woman, her hair steadily grew longer, taking on a greenish hue, as her eyes shifted between various colours of the rainbow. Her hands steadily reached towards the back of her morphing skull, letting a light laugh escape her lips. "I seem to have gotten myself lost somewhere along the line." Her voice was soft and sounded frightened, barely audible to the woman before her. She was inexperienced as far as battle was concerned and was unaware how her body would react, so aggravating the one in front of her would be a poor choice.
Her left foot moved backwards, as she slowly tried to heightened the distance between her and the woman. The grass seemed to respond to her touch as the blades grew longer, reaching upward to her knees in a halfhearted attempt to hide her from the wrathful gaze of the woman. Even though she hated the life she led, she didn't want it to come to a close so suddenly.

Serus observed the girl as her hair grew longer and as she stepped back, the grass grew to her knees. Serus kept a rather straight expression through all of this and the girl said that she had gotten lost along the way. She highly doubted that the girl was lost at all. For her to 'accidentally' wander into a large residence and skip off through the land as if it were hers, Serus wasn't very amused at this remark. Of course, Serus was barely ever amused at anything, especially when it came to people. And when I say people, it means Shinigami, Mod Souls, Hollows, Humans and whatever else is out there.
She blinked several times in a rather bored way and then moved towards the girl. She made it apparent that the girl really shouldn't be there and that with a slash from her blade she could end that girl's existance in a matter of moments. She however, did not resort to such violence because she was at home and it would be a great bother to have to clean up after a mess. Serus moved past the girl and merely kept walking towards the house. She didn't think she really needed to say anything. The girl understood what she had done and what should be the proper way of conducting herself. Serus sighed, however, and found that this girl was quite interesting. It wasn't just the way that she looked, but the way she carried herself as well.
Not many dared to waltz right in and then claim to have been lost. Clearly this girl was insane in one way or another. If she knew who she was, then the girl would have made sure not to even look upon this place. Serus stopped walking and looked back to the girl. "Well?" She raised her brows a bit. She couldn't believe what came out of her mouth afterwards, but she thought that it could be a good idea for a day that was rather lonely such as this. "Would you like anything to eat or not?" Of course Serus had to make it sound as if she had asked before and that the girl was slow to respond. It came with the nobility, and she was somewhat arrogant in the way she was brought up.

It wasn't that the girl was slow to comprehend, it was more along the lines that she had very little experience in social interaction to go by. However, even with the lack of communication, the girl could sense the woman before her was not amused in the slightest by the response she had been given. This was evident as the girl's eyes, now multicoloured and speckled with various hues, surveyed the stern yet proud lines etched in the Shinigami's face.
As her fingers nervously twiddled in their sleeves, she knew she had stumbled across a area that was supposed to be restricted, yet she had followed the fragrant aroma given off by the gardens, unable to resist her own temptation. The girl took another step backwards, as she halted at the woman's offer.
Her eyelids flashed several times in shock, as though she didn't understand what was just said. The shinigami had just offered her nourishment, even though the aura of the woman had originally suggested an alternate course of action. As she started to decline the offer, the girl's stomach let out a distorted grumbling noise as her face turned flush. She was rather famished afterall, even though her intuition said otherwise. Her head slowly nodded as she accepted the offer, her now long emerald hair contrasting against the pale complexion of her fair skin.

Serus watched the girl as she fought between wich to do. To accept or to decline. Either way, it would not have mattered to her since she didn't much care about peopl in the first place. She was only being polite instead of her usual dissmissive atittude. she had noticed that this girl was odd and wasn't sure what she ate.
The girl was about to decline when her stomach growled and practically forced her to accept. Serus' expression did not change in all of this and she simply turned and began to head towards the house again. She raised her hand and waved it forward a bit to motion for the girl to follow. A maid saw Serus and came over to her, throwing a few alarmed glances at the girl. "Please fix up something for us to eat. I have a guest." At this, the maid scuddled away and Serus lead to way to a rather large room with a long wooden table in the middle, cushions lined the floor around it.
She motioned for the girl to sit anywhere she liked and chose the seat across from her. She set her katana gently beside her and sat there in silence.

The girl nodded at Serus' gesture as her feet slowly moved forward, hastening to a clumsy trot, as her eyes darted around her in an unsettling manner, her mouth left slightly agape from the unusual dwelling. As her eyes met the gaze of the Shinigami's servant, they quickly shot away in the opposite direction in her typical bashful avoidance.
As she was led into the dining area, she followed the motion of the Shinigami's hand, her body falling into place onto one of the cushions as it embraced her. As she readjusted herself, her head turned upward towards the woman who had settled down across from her, unsure of what to say. Her head would droop down towards the table before her as her heightened green hair fell across the sides of her face, as she muttered a single word under her breath. "Arigato."

Serus just sat there in silence. She was used to the awkwardness, or rather didn't pay attention to it. She merely stared at the girl, intently studying her. There was definitely something unnatural, or rather too natural to this girl. She wasn't certain though. Could be a mod soul. She heard of those. Of course she never really saw one in person and she never really cared enough to show interest.
Her thoughts were too loud to hear the thanks she was given from the girl. At one point she just looked away and stayed so still she probably could've beaten a statue. "What's your name?" Serus finally said, her eyes sliding back to the girl.

The girl's gaze turned towards the table, wondering when sustenance would arrive. As her eyes rose up, they had taken on their natural heterochromic hue, shifting between a rainbow of various colours as they returned the piercing look given by the Shinigami woman, who had been watching her the whole time as the woman's eyes turned away, the body becoming still once more.
As the girl placed her forefinger across her neck, she quickly cleared her throat before answering the woman's question. That question seemed to be a popular one amongst most of the lifeforms she runs into, so she already had an answer formulated in her mind. "They call me many things, the first of which would be Eva, which is what I assume would be what you call a name."
E.V.A. had been going by that label for a while now, and it seemed to fit, yet it was still fuzzy who originally gave it to her. As her eyes turned a mixture of crimson and lavender, her eyes remained focused on the Shinigami, awaiting for some form of an recognition from the curious woman.

Serus finally noticed that girl's eyes and how they would change different colors from time to time. It was never just one color either, and it was sparkley in a sense. This brought little to no interest to her as she turned her head a bit to show that she was still giving her attention to the girl.
When the girl told Serus her name, she merely nodded one to show that she understood. Eva. Serus knew of some people being referred to as many different things and it wasn't unnatural. She didn't really think twice about it. She was about to give her hame to Eva, but at that moment a maid came in with a tray of food. Serus thanked the maid in the simplest of ways and motioned for Eva to eat. There was two bowls of white rice, four summer rolls, tea along with two cups and chopsticks, and a large plate filled with stir fried vegetables.
"My name is Serus Norallis, taichou of the nineth division." She said this as he picked up her chopsticks and faced the girl entirely.

E.V.A.'s heterochromic eyes turned towards the maid who had just entered the area, her eyes fixated on the contents that the woman held, which she assumed to be nourishment. As the entrees were placed before her, her eyes turned curiously towards the chopsticks, her lips tucking back as she stared at the utensils with an awkward expression on her face. She wasn't familiar with consuming wood as sustenance, and she had never used such things to assist her in her devouring of the other dishes. As her eyes skimmed over the chopsticks, they ran across something familiar, a bread roll, this one fresher than the ones she usually ate.
As Eva's hand reached out from her sleeve towards one of the summer rolls, her fingers wrapped around one, as she receded her hand. Bringing the pastry to her dampened lips, she took a small nip at the bread, her eyes watching the woman who had just revealed her title to E.V.A. As E.V.A nibbled away hungrily at the roll now clutched in her hands, she nodded her head briefly to indicate she was still listening.
She assumed the woman was a Shinigami, but she had not guessed she ran into one of the higher echelons of the Death Dealers. Her mind seemed to be warning her, a shattered memory forcing its way to the surface, the gruff voice of an middle age man ringing in her ears. Onigami, Shinigami, Arrancar, they are all your enemies as none of them see you as naught more than a science experiment created for their amusement. I'd advise you to be on guard around them, they are not to be trusted.... As E.V.A shook the voice out of her head, her eyes turned towards the half eaten pastry in her hand with a contemplative look across her face.
Her eyes drifted upwards towards Serus, as her lips separated to mutter in a nonchalant tone towards the Shinigami. "Why is it that you, a Shinigami Captain, took pity on me and brought me into your abode, when anyone else would have probably sought retribution against a trespassing spirit such as myself?"

Serus could see that Eva didn't use the chopsticks to eat her food. She decided that this girl probably wasn't used to eating properly or just wasn't taught. Either way, it didn't really bug her. She admired how free this girl seemed to be and felt a little resentment. It wasn't because she was mad, it was more of the jealousy that clenched at her, because she knew she probably would never be able to be free.
Eva spoke up after eating half of a summer roll. She asked why she had taken pity on her and let her in when others would kick her out or punish her. Serus picked up her chopstick, snatched up a summer roll and bit into it. The tates of steamed vegetables and little chunks of meat seeped into her mouth as she set the clear roll down on a plate in front of her. She chewed and swallowed before answering. "I do not much care as to who we are to each other. You weren't hurting anything and you weren't trying to steal anything. Why would I seek to punish you when you have done no harm?" She asked this and took another bite. She kept her eyes steadily on Eva's as she continued to eat.
She didn't understand why she was being such a nice person today, it was usually out of her nature completely. Maybe it was because she was tired of being such a stone cold person. Besides, she was at home and she had her privacy. It wasn't likely that the people she worked with would even dare step foot onto this property.

As she finished the roll, she licked the crumbs off off her fingers before turning to the Shinigami Taicho, her gaze suddenly turned solemn as she replied to Serus' questioning. "They always have revolted me, a simple peasant who asks for nothing and in turn receives nothing but the anguish and cruelty of others."
As she finished she reached for one of the cups of tea, bringing it to her moist lips as she let the concoction run down her throat with a long sip. As she set the cup back down in front of her, the solemn expression remained across her face as the nervousness that had consumed her had seemed to have faded away. "I wouldn't expect anyone to understand. I have very few recollections of my past, my memories are naught but shattered fragments, incomplete and incomprehensible. All I know is two years previously I had woken up in the midst of a forest outside the South Rukongai. The only thing I know is I must find out who I am and what my purpose is. When you mentioned you were a Shinigami, I had felt a strange emotion burn inside me, although I am unfamiliar with it and quickly contained it." EVA brought the tea back to her lips, taking long sips as she awaited the Shinigami's response.

When Eva mentioned that when she found out that Serus was a shinigami, there was a burning feeling inside of her. She considered this and rolled the thought around in her head for a bit as she continued to nibble on her food. Serus sipped her tea before saying anything.
"If you do not remember your past, but still have the feelings you did back then...then you proabably had some resentment felt towards the Shinigami." She simply stated. It was a possibility and an obvious one. She still wondered exactly what Eva was though. She didn't recall her ever saying. "Excuse me for asking, but what exactly are you?"

Caught off guard by the question, E.V.A. began to scratch her head, pondering the thought as her features showed signs of frustration trying to recall lost memories before going completely blank. "I'm not sure...." That was the honest truth, all she remembered was the name Eva and a figure looming over her in a foreign room. "I don't see a hole or a mask, so I guess I'm not a Hollow, yet at the same time, I possess no sword, so I can't be a Shinigami. Perhaps there are records of my existence somewhere?" E.V.A's face turned contemplative at the thought, surely someone must know her. She had been searching for such a thing, yet had come up empty handed on several occasions. There was no telling where such intel could be obtained.

Serus wasn't surprised when Eva said that she couldn't remember what she was. Her gaze fell and she sipped more of her tea. This girl definitely wasn't a regular human soul so that was another thing to scratch off the list.
"Perhaps...a test subject..." She stated mostly to herself. Serus set her cut down and ate her food with the chopsticks in her fingers. She paused for a bit and returned her gaze to Eva. "Division twelve might have information on you. But there's no guarantee that they would let you go once you go in. They're rather curious fellows."

The cup of tea shattered between the digits of EVA's hands as she moved forward suddenly, slamming both palms onto the table, the once peaceful and timid expression on her face now replaced by a wildeyed frenzy as her eyes locked with Serus'. "I am not a test subject nor will I be subject to becoming a lab rat with all liberties stolen from me!!!" As EVA finished, she quickly regained her previous composure, the sudden feral features melancholic once more as she bowed her head, an odd feeling coming to mind that this kind of situation had presented itself in a similar manner once before. "Forgive me, I know naught what came over me, however I have the oddest sense of deja vu now...."

When Eva burst out in a rage of what was said, Serus merely looked at the girl, a scerene expression painted on her face. She finished her food and set the chopsticks down calmly.
The girl had calmed down and appologized for her behavior. Serus blinked and took a sip of tea. When she was finished she set it on the table softly. "Forgiven. I was merely stating a possibility, but I do understand how you would find it offensive." Serus felt a sensation that they were being watched and guessed it was probably the maid looking to see what had caused the commotion. She had the urge to throw her katana through the sliding door and have its blade penetrate the maid in the stomach.
"This sort of thing has happened before?" Serus asked as she glanced over at the door and back at Eva.

"My memories are shattered and remnants fill that which are called dreams, most likely distorted and warped from the original. So it could be a dream or it could be a reformed memory." As her eyes hovered solemnly towards the door, her curiousity was evident as she asked a rather unusual request. ""So how would one gain access to this 12th Division and their archive records? I would assume that would be the only way to gain information on who and what I am."
