"When's the new guy getting here?" came the low pitched voice of Sumasshuyochi from inside Azerik's head.
"Kai should be here soon," Azerik replied lazily as he dropped his sword designs on the nearest table he could reach in Lab 36, "he's got 5 minutes before he's due."
Today was the day that Azerik and Kai were supposed to start work on the construction of a customized Zanpaktou. As far as Azerik knew, the only thing that came close to this project, was Nonko's reiatsu charged swords, that were carried around by his look alike battle puppets, but this project was taking the matter to a whole other level. The two of them were to make a Pseudo-Zanpaktou, with release forms and all, by using modified Mod-Soul technology. Azerik was particularly happy about this projects acceptance, since it was he who had proposed it to the Captain, and Kai had been added on as a lab partner.
Azerik laid out the many pieces of paper he had just placed on the lab table, revealing many technical drawings of different sword types. He looked at the first one, clearly labeled 'Naishinnou Unreleased form' and set it aside from the rest. He had settled on a basic japanese design, like most Zanpaktou, save that the length of the blade was slightly closer to that of a odachi then a katana. The hilt was to be wrapped in an icy blue cloth, which Azerik had decided best for the Zanpaktou in question, and the guard was custom designed, to appear in the shape of a rose if looked on from the tip of the blade. He glanced over at the forge that lay in the farthest corner from the lab entrance. He had delegatred the task of ghaving the forge set up to some unseated members of 12th Division, and was happy to see that the job had been done well. Azerik still had vague memories of his time in the world of the living, and he remembered that he had once had a part time job forging bayonets for the rifles of the soldiers of the human town his pack had lived near. Although it had been centuries since then, he was sure that the skills had not deserted him completely, so he had decided that after some trial runs, he would make the final prototype of Naishinnou himself.

"Yo." Kai's voice rang out looking at Azerik. He had been assigned to work with Azerik on this project. He was more of the help for some reason. His eyes shifted around the room eyeing everything not letting anything escape his gaze. His eyes rested on the design for the zanpakutou's sealed form. He had a basic idea of how this would go, just not sure exactly. He was the extra help so he would do as he was told and pitch ideas when needed. "How are we to do this?" Kai was serious unlike he normally was. most of the time his brain moved from topic to topic however when on a project he was calm and relaxed.
"Special type of the zanpakutou? I see you've designed the sealed form already." He looked around the room eyeing the tools taking note of where he was. Anything that could slow down the project would be taken into account. This was Kai's first major project and he did not plan to let it be a failure. Kai did not fail, he did everything correctly and made sure that whatever he was doing worked and worked well. "Just us or will there be more to aid in this project?" While Kai seemed what people would call normal he was far from it. He was already planning on testing the effects on others as he asked questions. In fact he already had a canidate picked out.
Kai sniffed the air trying to figure out exactly how sanitary it was. Even this small variable could prove important to the project's success. "Are we creating a spirit out of thin air or are we to steal one? If so I'm sure we could convince someone to kipnap a vizard or a useless shinigami and take theirs..." He doubted Azerik would go for this knowing what kind of man he was. He knew that they would be creating an all new one because he knew how Azerik valued life.

"It's just us for the moment," Azerik said as he looked through his paperwork for the project, "but Captain Ryuuza gave us-me actually-permission to make use of any of the unseated members as necessary."
Azerik chose his next words carefully, as he wanted to erase all thoughts of abduction from Kai's head.
"The basic idea behind the Pseudo-Zanpaktou theory," he started slowly as he tossed Kai the project report he had once given to Nonko, "is to create a Zanpaktou spirit, much in the same way we create Mod-Souls, and either place it directly into the sword instead of a pill, or place it in a pill, and harness its power using a device placed on the sword. The latter is not preferable, and a true success would be the first option.
Azerik rummaged in his robe for a second, and pulled out a vial containing a icy blue liquid. He placed the vial on the table and continued, "The final product is to be a poison type by the name of Naishinnou-I suppose we'll hardwire the name into the Mod-Spirit's brain-and that liquid is the poison its supposed to produce. It's based off the poisonous gas produced during the Captain's Bankai, so we know it basically has a numbing paralysis effect on the victim. We can either have it dispersed through the air like the Captain's Bankai, or we can have it put through the blood by a cut of some sort...any other questions?"

Kai snickered not hiding his entertainment at Azerik removing Kai's authority to use the lower ranks in more ways than one. He stopped as he thought about the project. Seemed simple enough if it could be done with bodies it could be done with swords. Poison, I'll be sure to test the effects thourghly. His mind stayed on topic as he thought about running tests and how Azerik would do it humanely. "None." Kai said quietly thinking to himself.
This was going to be an intresting project Kai knew it, and he also knew it would make Nonko one of the most powerful men in the universe if it worked. If this was used by his puppets he'd have another bankai to use in a battle. Not many could put up with two bankais at one time both perfectly in sync with each other. No matter how strong you were. "Heh Ryuuza will be a tough motha fucka afta this." Kai purposely aying the things incorrectly. "All he'll need is a vizard mask and he'll be nearly unbeatable."
Kai shook his head and laughed. "ALL HAIL LORD NONKO RYUUZA!" He shouted and began to laugh maniacly as if the world was his own to play with like he always dreamed of.

"Stop messing around," Azerik said with disgust, "if the initial project is a success, I'm not letting it go to waste by only giving the products to the Captain. Besides, since the Pseudo-Zanpaktou won't be synced to any one person, it won't be possible for them to reach their full potential, even in Bankai. They could rival some genuine Zanpaktou, but in the end the original will win out. This project is more to understand the nature of our partners from my point of view. I have a unique relationship with my Zanpaktou, so my understanding of their workings is somewhat over the normal. It just so happens that this will benefit as a military project."
Every word Azerik had just spoken was the truth. He had proposed the project to further the understanding of the nature of Zanpaktou, but knew it was accepted because of its military value, and that value was meant to be for Nonko's almost exclusive use, but Azerik was resolved to make better use of the project, even if he would be prosecuted for treason by Nonko. He doubted this would happen, but he was prepared for it nonetheless.
"Do you mind getting the forge started Kai," Azerik said absent mindedly as he went over his designs one more time, "after that, can you head to the tech lab and ask for a few unseated members to come and help with the design of the Pseudo-Zanpaktou Spirit."

Kai chuckled as Azerik shot down his idea of using it for Nonko's own personal use to be the ultimate warrior. Kai looked around the room and spotted the forge. It was tall black and had a pipe that led out of the room. Probably to let the smoke out into the air. Not nature friendly. He took a few steps over to it and switched it on setting at a temperature of six hundred degrees celsius. He would let it preheat and than later he would turn it up more. "Of course I'll go get the test subjects." Kai sounded as if he were joking, but to anyone that truly knew Kai they would know he was being serious.
Kai exited the room and was gone for about twenty minutes out choosing the people he thought best for the job. Many of them were afraid however when they found out he was working with Azerik a sense of peace would fall upon them. He chose the smartest of the unseated members and they were happy to be assigned to the project despite working with Kai who everyone knew was insane and had to be watched. They returned to the lab all looking around the room getting used to their surroundings much like Kai had when he had first entered.
Their eyes rested on Azerik and expected Kai to introduce themselves to their surperior. "I don't know their names, but they are smart." All of them would somewhat gain bigger heads and puppy dog pouts would show up from the feeling of not being specail enough for an maniac to remember their names. They weren't new members to twelfth division and they weren't old. They were just there. They all wore standard shinigami garbs. The heat from the forge was warming up the room causing the lot to sweat.
The first man to speak his name was an old man who seemed like he had been in the division as a way to settle down and get out of field work, but so that he could still make some money. He had a large burn mark on his right cheek and a grey mustache. "My name is Samagi Saratogi. This is my son. He waved one of the younger men over. "Samagi Soshinbo." The man stood at a height of five foot eight. He was tall and lanky and had short brown hair and he looked rather bored. He nodded in recognition from his father and stepped back letting someone else introduce themself.
Next person to move was a man named Itamachi Kaiser. He was a large man standing around six foot six and weighing well over two hundred. He seemed to be mostly muscle and had a large scar on his right eye making him blind. He had a shaved head and had a grin on his face. Kaiser had been in the eleventh division for two hundred years before he wanted to work in the twelfth division. A rather smart man he was a skilled fighter and a skilled thinker. He spoke a lot and tended to get in fights after to much to drink. "Who wants to go out for some sake later?"
The final person stood at six feet and looked like he weighed one sixty. He was rather muscular and had long brown hair and scruff like Kai. He like Kaiser had been in eleventh division before someone realized his potential and placed him in twelfth. He looked to be around the human age of sixteen. "Yuusha." His voice was deep and his bangs fell into his eyes.

"Nice to meet you all," Azerik said waving his hand to show he could hear them, Zaraki Azerik, 4th Seat, and the less than sane person I sent to fetch you is Mataro Kai, 6th Seat, if you didn't already know us.
He went through the paperwork one more time, then stood up straight and turned to look at the team members.
"I don't suppose Kai told you what we're doing," Azerik said lazily, then continued without waiting for an answer, "you've all been assigned to help design and create a modified soul, that will serve as the Zanpaktou Spirit for the Pseudo-Zanpaktou that Kai and I will be making."
Azerik handed out copies of the design for the unreleased form, as well as the the Shikai and Bankai designs. He held up the vial of poison he had shown Kai earlier, and continued speaking, "The Mod-Soul is to have the power to produce this poison. In its first release the poison should be in a relatively small dose, applied directly to the blood stream by cutting the sword wielders opponent, and the dosage should be upped for the second release. You're to hardwire the name 'Naishinnou' into the Mod-Soul's memory, as well as the images of the Shikai and Bankai forms. I'll be spending most of my time forging the different forms of the sword, since we'll need the real thing for the Mod-Soul to recognize them as its body...any questions?"

(This is crap post btw)
Kai stood there taking in every thought carefully. The others stood quietly nodding however Kai didn't know whether he should stand quiet or go ahead and ask for his role. "Azerik... What is my job sir?" He asked thinking about it he had not been given any specific roles to do or even think about. "Am I just a lab hand?" He asked wondering if it were true.

Azerik wasn't quite sure what to do with Kai. From every report he'd read, Kai was good at pretty much every area of science he attempted.
"I suppose I'll put you in charge of designing the Zanpaktou Spirit," Azerik said after a little while, "I want you to spend the most time on its personality. We want it to have a fairly docile one, since it has to be usable by anyone who picks it up...that reminds me we might have to call the Captain in to test the Bankai form. Although the Pseudo-Zanpaktou won't be as powerful as a genuine Zanpaktou, I doubt we could get it into Bankai."

Kai nodded as he listened to Azerik and he began to map out the zanpakutou's personality in his mind. Docile huh? Maybe... I could... Use... Some research? Kai knew that he could have some fun with his part of the assignment and instantly began to plan. It had to be easy to use. Agreeable and not annoying. Wise of course most spirits were wise, but this one would be able to give information on many topics.
"He'll be a super genious spirit." Kai turned to look for a computer he could start his work. He would download as many files as he could fit into the file so that he could make it smart enough. The computer would have to run fast enough to load everything and to be able to download everything when it was time. They would need a mod soul to download the abilities to and seal the modified soul into the zanpakutou which could be a challenge depending if they didn't know what they were doing.
Kai remembered his personal computer that he would begin to design the personality on. He took it out of a bag he had left out of the door. It was about the size of a laptop and held three times the memory. His fingers raced across the keys as he designed it. It would be rather detailed and he figured he could adjust it's personality depending on the mood of the wielder based on heat signatures they produce. "Male? Female? Human? Animal? It kind of matters towards the personality."

"Well with a name like 'Imperial Princess' wouldn't you expect it to be female," Azerik said in an annoyed tone, " and we're making a Zanpaktou, not a do it all robot, there's no need for us to make it have a scientific mind. The personality itself should be something...calm but forceful...regal I suppose you could say. It would fit the name."
While he was saying all this, Azerik was dropping iron ingots into the forges smelting tray. Almost immediately the metal began to melt, the surface of the dark metal, becoming glossy, and lighter in color. Things would be simpler with the automatic smelter, but Azerik intended to do the hammering himself. There was no point to his being here to over see the project if he wasn't going to do any actual work.

Kai shrugged and began to think through the name. "You never can truly tell with names anymore..." His mind went to imagine a man with a name like 'Imperial Princess'. A tall stocky man with a beard and mustache much like his. His short hair revealing his scalp wearing a plaid unbuttoned shirt revealing a wife beater. A deep voice introduce himself as 'Imperial Princess'. Kai let out a low chuckle and decided that it would be a female most definatley.
Kai continued to type deciding this would be a rather easy task even if he wanted to put a lot of detail in his work which he always did, but this seemed to simple of a project now. He liked doing body modifacations on people and decided that was fun because he liked to "forget" the pain releavers so that he could hear them scream when he ripped out an eye and replaced it with a special bomb or something. People were funny that way. They never wanted anything except power to cause pain to other people. However when it came to pain for themselves they totally bitched out.
Kai realized that none of his science would ever be recognized as wonderful while he was a part of the gotei. They were the good guys and well to be frank he was the basic villain. Insane and loves other peoples misery which was when an idea struck him. A devious idea that he would save for some time way in the future. He let out a quick chuckle and continued on with his work that he hoped would bring recognition to him.

While Kai worked 'with' the other members of the team on designing the Zanpaktou Spirit, Azerik had already smelted the iron, and formed it into a solid, but soft 4 foot long iron bar that was currently, a very dark gray color. He brought the bar of iron over to an anvil, and picked up a nearby hammer. He the began to beat the metal until it was much flatter than it had just been, but it still looked basically like a bar of iron.
"I was thinking the Zanpaktou Spirit should be raven haired," he said casually, "black hair seems most common in the Imperial families of feudal Japan..."

That was indeed true about the Imperial family throughout Japan's history and was indeed true about most of Japan's families. "Alright, good idea." He continued type as the unseated members behind him looked over his shoulder. They would give comments and Kai would quickly edit them upon what he liked out of their ideas. He designed the personality first making it so that he could design the female's body and appearance after that. He put in quirks and likes and dislikes in everything that could make her more life like.
"Any other wants?" Kai looked over the computer at Azerik who was working on the blade itself. "How long should this take Azerik?" He was just curious not trying to be impatient, but he knew that this could take awhile to get the poison and everything correct.

"There's no clear set time span," Azerik said as he reheated the iron bar, and started to hammer it again, "we take as long as we need to get it done. The spirit you're designing now, is the final product that we are to have...I have a few prototypes I have in mind for testing first."Azerik dipped the still hot iron-which was starting to resembled a sword blade-into a barrel of ice cold water, and steam began to rise out. He left it there, and walked over to his pile of paperwork. He rummaged through it, then selected one from the middle and handed it to Kai wordlessly. The title on the document read "Pseudo-Zanpaktou Spirit: Prototype Test #1." When Kai would open the document, this is what he would see: Spirit Name: Genkou-Neko (Copy Cat)
Description: A large cat, with an appearance that makes it look mirror coated. That is to say, it has a metallic sheen to its fur.
Notes: The name means Copy Cat, but the word used for "copy"-Genkou-is also a word used to describe raw metal ore, as in untreated and unworked. This also coincides with the nature of the Zanpaktou, since in essence it will have to be incomplete in order to carry out its function. The function in question, is the ability, to copy to a limited degree, the Zanpaktou of other Soul Reapers. At most Genkou-Neko would supply 2/3 or maybe 3/4 the power that the original Zanpaktou has. For example, if a Zanpaktou had the ability to extend its blade 20 feet, the copy would only be able to extend 13-15 feet. Of course, if the wielder of the copy, is stronger than the wielder of the original Zanpaktou, this might not apply. Just as well, in the reverse, the wielder of the copy, being weaker than the original wielder, the effects will be effected more negatively.

Kai opened the document and read the information that was there. "We are testing this?" Kai shrugged anything was good with him he didn't really care all that much just as long as he had fun which he normally did when working on a project. He read the document a good three times before he returned to working on to 'Imperial Princess'. She would be fun to have around and her voice would be a lovely flowing voice that you'd expect from someone who was singing.
"Copy Cat." Kai nudged one of the others who were helping him design the spirit. "Get it?" They shook their heads as to say they did not get it and he nodded because he himself didn't get it he just wanted to know if that could be a joke. Which failed so he put it in the discared section of his mind some where he never went unless he needed something. This he doubted he needed.
Kai cracked his fingers and peered over to see if Azerik was still playing with his sword.

Azerik reheated the cooled iron, and wnet about hammering it into shape again. Some few hours later, the blade was finished, and Azerik was working on carving an intricate guard for the hilt.
"Do you think it would be too kiddy to have the guard fro Genkou-Neko shaped like a cat's head?" he asked the room at large.

Kai chuckled and imagined the guard as a kitty head. "Will it have whiskers?" He joked, but than he realized that could be a rather good idea. He switched and connected himself to the human internet or what he liked to call the timmy like the Fairly Odd Parents he had told himself originally. He grinned he liked the idea he didn't know if Azerik would like it. "Check out what I pulled up on the Timmy." Kai ordered Azerik and everyone to look at what he had brought up. Kai laughed as he tried to tell them what he thought. "You... Hahaha... Should make the whiskers... Hahaha... Around the handle as the guard... Rapier style... Hahaha... It's not that funny is it? He thought aloud as he shook his head and decided it truly was not funny.

Kai shook his head and realized how unfunny he was. He was devastated and planned to cry when he left. Maybe the gotei thirteen is not for me. "Oh fudge sickles. I hate my life." He continued to work. A thought crossed Kai's mind and he decided it was best.
