Azerik was walking through the halls of the South Rukongai, Underground Research Facility, with the new Division member trailing along behind him. He had met the Shinigami during his scheduled training period, and had taking a liking to him. This had prompted him to recommend the slightly younger Shinigami to be recruited to fill the recently vacated rank of 4th Seat, Azerik's former spot.
"I should warn you Genzen," Azerik said turning his head slightly to look at the young man following him, "the Captain is a bit...odd. You should feel lucky you're going to meeting the real thing on the first try. When I first joined I was introduced to a humanoid replica puppet...mind you, he still has a puppet, its just not a replica of him...she does complicate the situation in my opinion though..."

"Huh, a puppet?" Genzen asked distractedly, speaking as his eyes were examining the walls and doors they passed. He had never been in the Research Facility before, of course, and was quite interested in all he was seeing. "So, one he controlled completely, not like a Modified Soul, right? Is this new one a Modified Soul?"

It had been a long time since one of the V3 puppet had been seen. It was known that Nonko no longer had them around since he created the Doll Design known as Nanako, but this wouldn't stop him from taking apart his older creation to inspect it. He wanted to know what caused the V3 and V2 designs to faultier and deteriorate.
Nonko stood working at a table with a "dead" V3 puppet laying in front of him. The chest of the puppet opened showing off both it's organic and artificial parts. Wires where vains would be, a heart that looks black and eaten away. The insides of this thing were rather nasty to look at for any normal person. Nonko of course only saw his failure of a creation. Next to him another, smaller, table with a number of different tools.
"Atrum..." Nonko said to himself the codename of this old V3. Somehow despite the fact he considered the V3 puppets a failure he was in a good mood thanks to it. This thing helped him create Nanako.
"Nonko-sama... Your new Vice is coming down the hall." Ket jumped down from a open vent shaft and sat on a control panel watching the door. Nonko's eyes looked up for a only a second, but he didn't bother to turn to the door.

Kazine was sitting guard directly in front of the door that led into the lab Nonko was currently in. Azerik and Genzen were not in sight yet but the cat could hear their footsteps coming towards him. He electronically sent out a request for confirmation of the two shinigami's allowance into the lab by Nonko. This wouldn't take long...in fact he would probably receive it before the two reached the door.

"Well he doesn't control her directly..." Azerik said, caught off guard by Genzen's question, "she just does what he tells her to...and she's not a Mod Soul, she's a machine...sort of...the old ones were basically the same...you can ask him yourself."
When he got to the door of lab #1, he looked down at the green cat, then looked back to Genzen. "This guy is a mod soul..." Azerik said as he then turned to look at the cat again, "...is the Captain in Kaz?"

"Huh," Genzen said slowly, listening to Azerik while still looking around as they walked. "I may..."
When he and Azerik reached the end of the hallway, he stopped and looked at Kazine with interest. "Suppose I'll be getting used to seeing a lot of cats, huh?" he asked Azerik jokingly, not hiding from the cat but still standing a few steps behind Azerik.

About to feet to the right of the door leading into the lab two vent opened suddenly across from each in the hall. Almost a 5 seconds after a kind of yelling echoed out as the lime green cat that is ket ran from the vent near the door to the one across. Shortly after him was a large number of Slugcats zooming across the floor from vent to another. It took a full minute for them all to make it out of one vent and into the other. The creatures were chasing Ket most likely under Nonko's orders.
"Azerik... ignore Kazine and enter." Nonko's voice echoed from the vent before it slammed shut.

Azerik blinked as the ever growing army of slug cats chased Ket across his line of vision, and as they all piled into the opposite vent, Azerik turned to the sound of Nonko's voice, and shrugged, ignoring Kazine and walking through the lab door.
"I brought the new recruit Captain," Azerik said as he entered the rather large room that was Lab #1, "figured you'd want to meet him in person. He would also need to meet you eventually..."

Genzen grinned, looking bemused as he watched a bunch of mutant, limbless, green cats give chase to a more complete version of themselves. "So, these are the Slug Cats? Just a guess," he jokingly asked as he turned back to Azerik. Suddenly he became more solemn as he walked through the door with Azerik, stopping when the other Shinigami did and bowing his head to the Captain.
"Captain Ryuuza, Genzen Kigakiku, 4th Seat."

Nonko turned for a second to scan over the boy who walked in with Azerik. He didn't say anything to him just looked at him for a few seconds before turning back to the puppet. "Normally when I meet the new members to my division I go to them unannounced to judge their reactions of meeting their captain. I assume Azerik was trying to save you from that process by bringing you here now." As Nonko spoke he left up him left arm and aimed it at a computer console not few from him. One of his black wires jetted out from under his sleeve and connected to him.
Genzen's profile was then displayed on the monitor with all his information and added to it was the power value stats Nonko had just scanned for a moment ago. "Although a seated officer you won't be put in charge of any projects, but you can assist Project Leaders like myself, Azerik, or anyone else whom you are assigned too or asked by."
Disconnecting himself from the console who turned back to the two and looked at Azerik. "Speaking of recruits, I will be putting you in charge of scouting for division members Azerik. I hope your judgment will be good enough to get some new members."

"Certainly Captain," Azerik responded lightly with a smile, "I'll be on the look out for potential members."
Looking at Genzen now, Azerik wondered what his reaction would be to Nonko's trick with the wire, but decided to bring up something more pressing.
"I'll be starting a new project soon Genzen, I'll probably be needing your assistance." Azerik said as he skimmed his mental 'to-do" list, "And if you're not opposed to it, I'll also be apprehending you for training purposes...I've become lax with my normal schedule."

He listened intently as Nonko spoke, but his eyes began to wander around the room as he did, finally resting on the dissected artificial corpse on the table. When Nonko shot the wires in Genzen's direction, his eyes widened and his eyebrows raised, but he stood almost completely still and kept his face calm on the most part.
"Understood, Nonko-taicho," he eventually responded. He was mildly disappointed that he wouldn't be running his own experiments, but didn't mind the prospect of working with Azerik, either. He continued to look around the room without moving much, his eyes hungrily devouring the contents of the room as if he couldn't learn enough.
"Sure, Azerik-sempai," he responded to the Lieutenant, turning his head halfway in Azerik's direction while still scanning the room. "How soon?"

The sound of a heart beating slowly started to echo from the chest of the puppet on the table. Nonko looked into the chest and saw that it was indeed the beating heart of the puppet making the noise. "It's...still alive." He said confused about how it can possibly be alive after not just what Nanako did to the V3 in the living world, but also the fact they were dieing anyway.
Nonko quickly scanned over the puppet and found it was running on a small amount of power. Just enough to keep it alive for a little while. "Strange... you should be dead. Both you technical and biologic parts shouldn't work." Nonko spoke to it as if was going to speak back, but nothing came in reply.

Azerik too looked at the puppet with interest, wondering how the Captain could have missed something like this. Walking over to the puppet, he sniffed the air above it, and blinked as he recognized the odor.
"Isn't this the one I met when I first joined 12th Division?" Azerik said looking at Nonko questioningly, "It smells the same as the one back then...mind you I haven't come into contact with many of them, they could all smell similar for all I know."

Genzen's eyes fell upon the dissected puppet again as the conversation became directed towards it. Though his outward expression simply showed detached interest, he had mixed feelings for the thing lying on the table. It looked in most ways like a human, yet he had no way of telling how human it really was, so his natural empathy for the thing was only half-felt. Plus he didn't want to look like an idiot in front of his new Captain and Lieutenant, so he just kept quiet and watched with mild interest.

Nonko's eye looked over the opened body of the puppet. It's heart beating slowly. As he watched the thing before his struggle to hold onto it's artificial life Nonko's mind started ti work out an idea that could be an interesting thing to see work... Aiming his arm once again for the computer console all four of the black wires shout out from under his sleeve this time. All the computers in the room automatically switched on displaying all kinds of information about the system's mainframe and the V3's brain design.
"Azerik, the tools I used to make the original puppet's prototype body are located near the left side of my desk. Grab them and get ready to assist me." His eyes not moving from the beating heart Nonko spoke orders to his subordinates in order to make his idea a reality. "4th Seat Genzen, use the control console at the foot of the table to keep track of this puppet's health." Putting the new guy to work right away.

"Yes Captain," Azerik said walking quickly over to Nonko's desk. When he had retrieved the tools, he made his way to the opposite side of the lab table from Nonko, and laid the tools out for easy access.
"Do I have permission to inquire, or shall I just shut up and do as I'm told for now?"

Staying calm, Genzen walked over quickly and sat down before the console, his eyes now glued to the screen. As fast as the could, he deciphered the information on display and began to speak, "Everything seems... Well, you can't call this thing 'fine', but it's still alive."

"What does a living creature like you or me have that this puppet shouldn't have?" Nonko looking over the puppet continually asked. He wanted to see which one of them would get the answer right before he was finished with what he was doing to the computer.
((Cheap post. Sorry I'm working on something that has most of my attention))

"I would hazard a guess at emotions Captain," Azerik said when Nonko voided his question, "but I get the feeling thats not exactly the answer you'd be looking for."
Thinking about it for a moment, Azerik voiced a more serious answer, "I'd say a conscience is something it shouldn't have, but there are even people who don't have or don't listen to that."
