Standing at about 5'5 she has a smaller thin frame and weighs at a measly 122 lbs. Her eyes are a deep yellow with gold flecks in the irises. She has a long scar that runs down her back from the nap of her neck down to the small of her back. it runs from 1 inch in width to 2 inches in width.

Personality: Ran Mao doesn't say much but she isn't shy, she is anything but shy. Her sentences tend to be incomplete and her opinions often consist of one to two words. She tends to be blunt and quite rash and random in her actions. When she was younger if she had a crush or tried to flirt she would often just flash the person she liked. Many times she'll write out what she wantes to say rather then say them. She perfers to not resort to fighting if possible, though she does seem to enjoy starting them or provoking them to start.

History: Ran Mao was born into the Royal Chinese family and from birth she was promised to be wed to Sheng Xi, the young prince of neighboring kingdom for the sake of peace. As Ran grew up she stuck close to her older brother Lau Zhang. Though he was her brother Ran loved him like no other and he loved and cared about Ran the same. Before they knew it they had fallen in love with each other. When Lau was 11 and Ran was 7 they both went before their father to tell him they wanted to marry each other. He became furious and banished Lau from the kingdom and kept Ran locked within the palace forbidding her to ever go out or leave. On the 12th spring of her life Ran was forced to marry Sheng Xi. The night before the marriage Lau had found Ran and snuck into her room. The both of them ran off with each other to elope and start their own life. Hearing that Ran had run off with Lau, Sheng sent out soldiers to search for Ran as well. It wasn't long before both Lau and Ran were found and brought back to Sheng. Lau was sentenced to be beheaded and Ran was still forced to marry Sheng. The death of her beloved brother caused Ran to fall into a deep depression. For months she refused to speak or ever leave her room. Fed up with her behavior Sheng decided to kill her and remarry. He hired an assassin to slip into her room and kill Ran to make sure it looked like a suicide.
When Ran awoke she found herself watching her own funeral. Upset and confused she wandered around for years as a spirit unable to move on or find peace until she found out who had killed her. It was a cold winter night when Ran encountered her first hollow and shinigami. She was wandering between the empty streets when a large monstrous beast appeared through a large hole in the sky. It had a large white mask and glowing yellow eyes. Unsure of what it was she began to follow it not realizing the danger she put herself in. It was when she was about several meters that the monster had turned around and noticed her and she realized that she was in trouble. Licking its teeth the hollow then lunged forward charging towards Ran. Frozen in fear Ran closed her eyes and expected pain but when she felt nothing she opened her eyes and saw a man wearing odd black robes wielding a large sword. Before she knew it the monster that she saw was now gone and killed. Ran Mao opened her mouth to thank him but nothing came out. After not speaking for so many years Ran couldn't find her voice to speak but she could still write. Grabbing a stick she wrote a small thanks in the dirt to the odd stranger. He simply smiled and sent Ran to Rukongai.
When Ran came to she found herself in Southern Rukongai. After a few days of living out in the streets she fainted from lack of starvation and water. It was here that a random family had found her and adopted her. When Ran awoke she tried to speak to the family that had found her but once again she couldn't find her voice. Desperate to say something Ran began to write in the air trying to write out her words hoping the family could understand her. Oddly enough as she began to write in the air a lavender misty ink spilled out from her finger. As she wrote out her words the mist like ink remained in the air allowing Ran to write in midair. What Ran didn't realize was that she was using her reiatsu to write in the air. Seeing Ran's odd ability to use her reiatsu in such a way they enrolled her into the shinigami academy knowing that she would do well.
Ran entered the shinigami academy and excelled in almost everything. Though she had no problem using her reiatsu in her odd ability to write on anything she had trouble focusing her reiatsu to perform kidou spells. She often struggled to do even simple ones. It took a couple of years before she was able to do the first several kidou spells easily. She graduated the shinigami academy and entered as the 10th seat of the 5th division. Slowly she began to move up in ranks with the help of her captain who would often train her privately. It was because of his help that Ran was able to secretly achieve shikai and bankai before everyone else in her division and she was slowly able to find her voice being able to speak a few words, but she still continued to write her words using her reiatsu. Though she could have easily been the vice captain in her division she decided to stay as a third seat. It during a small mission to take care of some hollows that had appeared in Karakura town that her captain had met with some arrancar. Out numbered 3 to 2 they easily killed him and the vice captain. They had nearly killed Ran by trying to cut out her spine and torture her but luckily several other captains and vice captains had arrived and defeated the arrancar. When Ran returned to the academy and recovered fully she then decided to take the captains test for the 5th division. She went before the Commander General and three random captains and revealed her bankai and easily was accepted as the 5th division captain.

-Shikai: "Flutter, Zhōu Fēng" Ran Mao's sword splits into two semi large gold fans what are each almost a full semi circle. Put together they form almost a full circle. Both reach to about 1 foot and 6 inches in width fully fanned out and 1 foot in length closed. The end of each fan is made of black steel, which is as hard as any normal sword, so she can use it to defend regular sword attacks when her fan is closed.

Fanged Wings: Using her own reistu she sends the energy itself to her weapons and with a swing of her fans she may send a wave of pure energy at her targets. The strength depends on how strong her reiatsu is. (It's basically like a miniture getsuga tenshou)
Bite of the Butterfly: From each fold of the fan resides a long metal needle. Along the sides are very small thin hard to see serrated edges so that even getting grazed by a needle can cause a rather large and painful cut. They are about 5 inchs in length with a 2 milimeters diameter so that they are meant to penetrate deep and even pierce all the way through an object. With a swing of her fans she may throw off as many as up to 20 in one swing. There are 10 needles in each fan.
Bankai: The 4 winds of the East: Ran Mao is able to create up to 4 twisters what are about 5 feet in diameter and 10 feet in length. With each twister she can combine her attacks or passive to it to double its effectiveness. Each twister has the properties of a normal twister but once combined with an attack or a passive they take on that attack or passive properties. Ran Mao can also control the direction and timing of when she wants to launch an attack from the twisters. Of course she can only so this with two of the twisters since they are attack based while the other two twisters are more passive based. She can also combine more then one twister together to mix different attacks into one twister. For instance if she combines one twister that has the properties of her Fanged Wings and combined it with another twister that had the properties of her normal passive ability then the new twister would be 10 feet in diameter and 20 feet in length and would be able to shoot Fanged Wings but have the effect of her passive in it as well.
Passive Abilities:
She can summon butterflies from her sword whether it be shikai or bankai. If they land on a target they start to slowly sap the energy from the target. The longer they stay on the person the more energy they sap. If Ran Mao calls them back the energy the butterflies collect she can use it toward her own attacks. For every butterfly that lands on a target they sap 1 energy upon landing for every post they remain they sap 1 energy per post.

Unlocked Later -With Each flap of her golden wings a very fine toxic dust is released into the air. When ingested or inhaled it goes straight into the lungs, blood and muscles where it will very slowly and gradually start to slow down the functionality of each of the organs and muscles. Over a long period of time the affected person will start to have trouble breathing, their movements will become slow and lethargic, they will begin to feel more and more sleepy. If exposed to long enough the ultimate end is they will slip into a coma like state where they will wake up within several days, more or less depending on the amount of exposure.*
*After I post 3 times they begin to have slight difficulty breathing. After 6 posts their movements and reaction time begin to slow down by 1/8 their normal speed. After 9 posts breathing is twice as more difficult and movement is cut down to 1/4 their normal speed. After 12 posts they are in a complete coma. (The timing is for every post I make. So 3 posts is really 6 posts back and forth, 6 posts is really 12 posts back and forth. 9 posts is 18 posts back and forth, ect)
