I remember when things used to be easy, back before the Onigami, and the Wars and all the friends who became enemies. The way the sun used to shine on the Court of Pure Souls without the fear and constant waiting for an attack that never comes. Sure we all have that non-aggression act, but lets face it, the moment someone decides to break it it'll be war regardless. Back in the Academy they can teach you how to handle Konso, Hollows, those Quincy, and the Vizards, but they can't teach you how to handle your best friend standing on the opposite end of your blade, in the opposite army's colours as you wait to kill each other. I guess we're supposed to find luck in that thought, that we, the Shinigami of the Soul Society continue them on the cycle of life instead of killing them, still though when I lay awake at night I think, and this is what I think about.
The Shinigami, it's the guys I work for, we're the Guardians of the Worlds. We exorcise hollows and defend the defenceless. Our Zanpakutou's are the most identifying things about us, we send people who have died to the Soul Society; there they live in the Rukongai district, living happy new lives for years on end. We use the ways of Binding and Destruction or Bokudou and Hadou respectively. We call them Demon Arts or Kidou, they are many in numbers and of untold amounts of power, the right combination of binding and destruction can destroy the enemy or render them helpless. It's like our pocket-knives and a great back up to the Zanpakutou. Our Zanpakutou come in three forms, our sealed forms which look like Katana's, a Shikai which is what level I'm at, it's our 'second release'. Then finally our Bankai, this thing is incredibly powerful, incredibly strong, they're rumoured to level entire cities in a single call and be one hundred times stronger than a regular Zanpakutou, mostly Taichou's of the Gotei Thirteen possess this level of power.
Then there are the Quincy, can't say I like them, in fact I rather hate them, but they do have a strong sense of pride and honour amongst their clan. They some how got caught up in the war with the Onigami and most of their Clans got wiped out and they ended up losing their home. I can see why they're pissed, but they have an exclusive hatred for the Shinigami. That's probably why I have my problem with them. They tend to shoot first, ask questions later. They're blaming the Shinigami, and they always have for many years; after they were hunted by the Shinigami due to their methods in terminating hollows, the alliance between Soul Reaper and Quincy had broken in two, and both sides became to despise one other.
Humans, what can we say about them, someone's training them and they've got some weird powers. All completely unpredictable yet almost a reflection of that person's personality. None are alike and all are powered by something we know nothing of, it's not really scary, not yet at least. Still though the idea that someone is purposeless making them stronger and spiritually aware means that they'll be involved in a world soon enough where they may have to die for no reason, and that is a problem. But rumour has it that the person who has been training the humans has gone missing, just like my father when he went for a nightly stroll and never came back, 'the bastard...' Now there is a new up-rise within the Humans, soon they will have a new leader. The Shinigami don't know what to do with them, or how they could assist us, but some way, some how, we would be the ones who will protect them from the others. After all we are the protectors of the Humans...
We've also noticed movements from the Vizards. They don't do much and it seems like they're just interested in hiding amongst the Humans. That being said it wouldn't surprise me if they wanted to cut up some Shinigami, after all we did kick them out of the Soul Society. It makes us sound terrible, but they broke our forbidden laws of taking on a Hollow's powers. They're scary dangerous and I really would rather not mess with them, the fact that I can't see them or tell who they are very easily makes it worse, when it comes to the Vizards, I just pray that I don't piss some of them off. I have this theory that no ones buying into, but I think they probably own businesses and blend in perfectly and fund their works that way.
While we're on the subject of hybrids, there's a recent threat that is worse than all the Quincy and Vizards in my opinon. The Arrancar, I honestly have nightmares about regular hollows, but Hollows with Zanpakutou, and can think, and can kill, they all terrify me to no ends. They're said to be from the depths of Hueco Mundo and to work for something called "The Lord of the Deep." I don't know what the hell they're planning, but it's said ten of their Espada can destroy the Gotei Thirteen, and that would potential be the end of existence for everyone. It's a scary thought that the Hollows can come so very close to winning a war that could decide the fate of everyone and everything. Especially since their Cero and Bala seem to be able to match and out do normal Kidou. I don't know how many lives where lost to these bastards, but I really, really hope I don't have to face them.
It has only been some time ago that the Onigami have left, there seem's to be only a handful, and soon the numbers would turn to zero. I was listening into some ones conversation one day that apparantly the Blood king stepped down, and his own men opposed, killing his successor. Soon they fled to the human world and blend in, but who is to say that there isn't an Onigami any more. Either way, it's all stuffed up.
Everything seems peaceful for now, but nothing can last forever. Soon enough the earth would crack, the waves would rise, the skies would fall, and the living would tumble. And there we would stand; Humans, Quincy, Hollows, Vizards, and Shinigami, standing in a field, a war of chess. Now the game begins,
“Who's side are you on...”
